Lair's Shoes originally opened in Rochester, MN in 1950. It was a family owned store operated by Curt Lair that specialized in orthopedic footwear. George Lair purchased the store from his father in the early 1970's and expanded the footwear lines. Business continued growing with the addition of items such as custom molded shoes, custom orthotics, and hypoallergenic shoes. The store was originally on 14 3rd Street SW, but moved to 16 3rd Street SW in 1982, doubling its size.
In 1989, Prosthetic Laboratories of Rochester purchased the business from George Lair and moved the store to its current location at 155 1st Avenue SW in the subway level of the US Bank building. Lair's continues to provide quality comfort footwear and specialty services to their customers.
