Mastectomy brasBreast cancer can change your life forever. At the Silhouette Shoppe, our goal is to help you regain the self-image you had prior to surgery. Our certified fitters are committed to helping you choose the product that best suits your needs, whether it is a post-operative camisole, mastectomy bra, breast prosthesis, or one of our many other items. We guarantee that you will leave satisfied after your first visit to our facility.

The Silhouette Shoppe carries post-operative camisoles available in various sizes for wear during the four to six week recovery period following your surgery. You will find these camisoles beneficial whether you have undergone mastectomy, lumpectomy or reconstruction procedures. They can be stepped into and conveniently pulled up your body to minimize arm lifting. Included with the camisole are two padded inserts made of soft cotton that can be placed in the surgical area to help you feel balanced.

Following this phase, you may choose to have a mastectomy bra fitted. These are designed to be worn after your six week surgical recovery period. The Silhouette Shoppe has trained fitters who can assist you in choosing from a large assortment of sizes, colors and fits. Our bras come with an inner pocket in each cup to hold the breast prosthesis, thus ensuring a secure and natural feeling.

The breast prostheses themselves come in a variety of styles. Our silicone inserts are known for passing the “hug test”; they fit smoothly to your body and provide a natural look and feel. We also provide partial breast shapers for lumpectomy patients who want to feel more contoured. Along with our padded styles, swim forms are also available. These fit perfectly into the specialty swimsuits carried in all our stores.

For patients still undergoing treatment, we also carry special radiation bras that provide comfort while allowing your skin to breathe during the radiation treatments.

Jobst StockingsIn addition, the Silhouette Shoppe specializes in compression garments for lymphedema patients. Products range from arm sleeves to compression stockings. Our stockings come in waist high, thigh high, knee high and trouser styles. Our staff is trained to provide custom fittings for each individual. For clients interested in a bit more fun, we also carry the fashion-forward LympheDiva brand. http://www.lymphedivas.com

We are confident that our wide selection of products will guarantee that you leave feeling content and beautiful with products that suit your individual tastes.

Commonly Asked Questions

Q: What is a breast prosthesis?
A: A breast prosthesis is a form that is shaped and weighted to resemble a real breast and that fits comfortably in a mastectomy bra. They are available in a range of styles to suit individual choices, ranging from silicone forms that feel and look very natural to our soft, lightweight cotton forms that are good for everyday comfort.
Q: How do I clean and care for my breast prosthesis?
A: Care for your prosthesis as you would a real breast. If you just came back from a run and need to take a shower, this would be a good time to clean your prosthesis, as well. Remove the prosthesis from your bra and use a mild soap; gently wash your form under warm running water. Then allow it to air dry. If it is one of our silicone forms, you will need to place it back in the mold upside down.
Q: What is the difference between your regular silicone forms and your swim forms?
A: These forms look and feel relatively similar, but the swim form holds up better in chlorinated water.
Q: Is there any guarantee or warranty provided for your products?
A: There is a 2 year warranty for our silicone prostheses that guarantees replacement of any item that is damaged or leaking after normal wear and tear.
Q: How do I care for my compression garments?
A: Hand wash them with a gentle soap. Then wrap them in a towel to remove excess water and let air dry. DO NOT place them in the dryer on any heat setting or you will ruin the elasticity.
Q: Will you accept my insurance?
A: The Silhouette Shoppe accepts most forms of insurance; check with your individual plan for specific item coverage. Also, many plans have limitations and may require you to pay for a portion or all of the items purchased.
Q: What does insurance cover?
A: With the exception of Medicare, we cannot guarantee coverage by your insurance company. Therefore, we urge you, as our customer, to directly contact your insurance company prior to your visit. That way you will know exactly what products your insurance company will pay for and how many of each you may receive without additional charges.

Medicare will pay towards:

  • - One silicone breast prosthesis every two years (per side)
  • - Up to two leisure breast forms (good for swimming/exercising)      per year
  • - Up to four mastectomy bras per year
  • - Any additional supplies needed due to a drastic weight change
